GUIBONGAN IGTUBA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL started as a single
class school in 1963; a Grade Class under Miss Julieta Parinal. The class was
held in makeshift chapel of Barangay Guibongan.
Recognizing the need to establish formal school the
three barangays namely: Guibongan, Igtuba and Kiraya Sur concerted their effort
to request the Municipal Officials to help and to provide lot for the school. A
public land in a swampy area along the boundary of Barangay Guibongan and
Barangay Kirayan Sur, Miagao was set as the school site. The Municipality
appropriated the area of 15, 315 square meters of declared public land as
school site passed through a resolution by the Municipal Council. The site is
about 3.5 kilometers from the poblacion and is near the national higway. It is
near Spanish Era Bridge known as “Taytay Boni”.
The school area is located in a large mound of soil
surrounded by swamps. The mound of soil was plowed and levelled to accommodate the
construction of a 2-room makeshift building made of bamboo and “pawid” as
roofing materials. The room had no flooring and the tables and chairs were made
of bamboo slots known as “papang.”
With the building, two classes were opened with two
additional teachers. The school operated as a primary school with Miss Parinal
as the first teacher In-charge of the school.
Through the years, the school site was developed
through the effort of parents and pupils who offered “dagyaw” and labored in
transporting piling and filling sand, gravel, stone, and soil from dried ponds
in order to elevate the swampy area to increase the area of the school ground
for the construction of additional classroom.
In 1966 another four (4) classrooms made of light
materials were added. On the same year, the school was converted into an
Elementary School. The first elementary graduates were in school year 1968-1969
with Miss Julieta Parinal as the first school head.

schooling of the pupils, thus, some pupils transferred to Miagao Central
School.
Through the help of the local government of Miagao another
temporary building was built and the transferees were called back to school.
From then on, the school continuously grew. The pupils and parents also
continuously labored in piling blocks of soil, hauling stones and filling up
soils to increase the school accommodate more buildings and playground. The
swampy area at both front and back of the school were developed into bangus
fishpond. Later, these fishpond in front of the school site were turned into
rice fields.
Currently, it has grown into a 16-class school. The
kinder class of the school is in collaboration with the educational Research
and Development Assistance (ERDA) Foundation. There are 16 regular teachers and
is headed by a school principal. The school is also considered as the biggest

Once upon a time, there
was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and
all of the others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings
that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love.
Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last
possible moment. When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.
Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat.
Love said, “Richness,
can you take me with you?” Richness answered, “No, I can’t. There is a lot of
gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you.” Love decided to
ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. “Vanity, please help
me!” “I can’t help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat,” Vanity
answered.
Sadness was close by so
Love asked, “Sadness, let me go with you.” “Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I
need to be by myself!” Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that
she did not even hear when Love called her. Suddenly, there was a voice, “Come,
Love, I will take you.” It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, Love even
forgot to ask the elder where they were going.
When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much was owed the elder, Love asked Knowledge, another elder, “Who Helped me?” “It was Time,” Knowledge answered. “Time?” asked Love. “But why did Time help me?” Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, “Because only Time is capable of understanding how valuable Love is.”
4. Observation on Teacher
1.1 Planning for Teaching
The process of making a lesson plan by teacher made through a manual system. Before entering the learning process, the teachers are required to make a lesson plan, and use in the K to 12 Curriculum.
1.2 Preparing Lesson and Materials
The teacher has already prepared the lesson plan (DLL) and the materials to explain the lesson plan easily and clearly. The Miagao Guibongan Igtuba Elementary School has the limited LCD so before teaching we should prepare the Projector first.
1.3 Teaching in Class
The
teacher used expository method or discussion and discovery learning when she
taught the students in the class. And then the teacher gives the explanation
and mix with the game.
4 Measurement and Evaluation
The teachers give the individual test for the students in the end of the lesson on that day
5. Teaching Practice
1.1 Procedure of Teaching
For
the teaching procedure, it was same like my lesson plan such as introduction,
review about the previous topic, main activities and closing. And then i
explain the material through the power point, I ask the students to answer the
question on the board. Three students answered correctly the question. I formed
them to the 4 group and i give them the subtopic and they should discuss each
other. After 5 minutes one of them presentation in front of the class and in
the last meeting i will give reward for the best group. The students could
understand my lesson. I gave them individual test, and they could answer the
questions correctly, they were so awesome.
2 Time Management and Organizing Activities
10 minutes for preliminary activities (greeting, pray, motivation activity, and ice breaking.
20 minutes for development activities (teacher explanation, discussion, question and answer the task).
10 minutes for student activity and quiz
5 minutes for the conclusion about the material.
1.3 Problem Solving
When teaching students sometimes the students are noisy in the classroom and it is a problem that often occurs in the classroom. I make the situation calm down by not angry with them and asking them what’s wrong with them. When they told me, I solved the problem wisely. The second problem, sometimes I have different accent to talk with them. And then during the course of my learning I keep asking them if my accent is not understood they can be asked and they can understand the lesson well.
1.4 Classroom Management
Manage the classroom depends on the strategy used by the teacher, if the teaching method is appropriate, then it is easy for the teacher to teach and manage all the student.
6. Summary and Suggestion
1.1 Purposes of Practicum

1.4 The Challenges of Practicum
The challenge I face is how to get students to understand the material I am going to teach them, with the different pronunciations and the difficult to teach the English. My challenge during teaching in one of the classes I taught was Grade V, the class included one of the best classes in that school. When I had to teach my material i felt a little scared because they had understood the lesson before. The students are very diligent and Active.
1.5 Overall Impression
I love Philippines and expecially Iloilo city, i found so many festival like Nagyang festival, Salakayan Festival, and etc. The people of the philippines are so friendly and humble they are always help us when i can’t do something. I went to many place such as SM Mall, Festive walk, Central mall, Festive Walk, Garinfarm, Guimaras, and etc. and the I am so happy with life in Philippines, starting from the friendliness of the people, the traffic rules that put people first in the street, and the greetings that do not have to shake hands.
